Why it matters
Naphtha is the feedstock for most Indian petrochemical crackers and for some fertiliser plants that cannot access gas. The crack spread – naphtha price minus crude input cost – determines cracker economics. When international LPG is cheaper than naphtha, cracker operators switch feedstock and naphtha demand softens. PPAC publishes refinery-gate naphtha prices monthly; downstream HDPE and PP pricing moves with a 30-45 day lag.
