Why it matters
Diesel is the freight fuel. Roughly 55% of road freight moves on diesel; so does agricultural irrigation, construction equipment, and generator backup power. A ₹1/litre rise in diesel adds approximately ₹0.25-0.40 to the cost of moving a tonne of goods 100 km. This flows into food prices within 3-5 weeks. Diesel is the most economically connected product in the Indian energy stack.
