Why it matters
LPG cylinder price is the household energy bill for 300 million Indian families. Government subsidises domestic cylinder price; affluent consumer subsidies were phased out post-2016, but PAHAL DBT ensures the subsidy reaches the household account. When international LPG prices rise, the government either absorbs the gap (suppressing OMC margins) or partially passes through. The subsidy headroom is the fiscal watch.
